Mekeni satisfies requirements for a stricter food safety certification

As a testament to its commitment to providing only the best and quality products to the market, Mekeni Food Corporation’s excellent food manufacturing management processes has once again been recognized as compliant to the most comprehensive international standards on food safety and quality.

With its strict implementation of food safety measures across different stages of production, Mekeni satisfied the requirements for the upgraded Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) accreditation under the Food Chain Category.

“We are extremely proud and grateful to be able to comply with the requirements of FSSC 22000 v5.1 amid the challenges we are facing right now. This is proof that Filipino brands can be globally competitive, creating food products that meet the expectations and requirements of global food manufacturing stakeholders,” said Mekeni President Prudencio Garcia.

FSSC 22000 v5.1, which is recognized and accepted by the largest brands and retailers as it is Global Food Safety Initiative benchmarked, is an affirmation that Mekeni strictly adheres to globally recognized food safety and management standards—starting from sourcing only the highest quality of raw ingredients to implementing strict food safety practices.

This latest version of FSSC 22000 covers management of services and purchased materials; improvements in product labelling; and storage and warehousing. These changes are aligned with the updates in Global Food Safety Initiative benchmarking requirements that includes mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is also a proof that Mekeni employs a proactive, systematic, and logical approach to addressing food safety problems or concerns, especially during the pandemic, an assurance that its products are clean and safe.

“Mekeni has always been at the forefront of the food manufacturing industry. We value the trust that our customers, partners, employees, and communities have in us that is why we will continue innovating and improving our processes to ensure that we continuously meet global standards of food safety,” said Garcia.

Mekeni, particularly its hotdog manufacturing, is the country’s first globally certified meat processing facility. Mekeni is the first company to satisfy the requirements of ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Certified Meat Plant in Asia and second in the world, and the recipient of the International Quality Awards of Gold (2012) in Geneva, Switzerland; Platinum (2013), in Frankfurt Germany; and Diamond (2016) in Paris, France.
