The importance of proper nutrition in the growth and development of children has long been established. Without proper nutrients, the body won’t be able to function optimally thus affecting the child’s growth and learning capacity. But with the pandemic still hanging over our heads, parents are not just concerned about their child’s growth and development but also with protection and immunity from illnesses. Both of which still require providing the proper nutrition for the kids. But how do you know if you’re nourishing your kids properly?

In order to raise healthy and well-rounded kids, you’ll have to nourish their body, mind, and spirit. The first step is to make sure that the kids are getting the right amount of nutrients from their daily meals. According to Dr. Jose Dimaano, Medical Affairs Director Asia-Pacific at Abbott, “Proper nutrition is the foundation for living your best life.” This is because a well-nourished body enables kids to perform well in both physical and mental activities. Proper nourishment is also key to a strong immune system that protects them from illnesses. Now everything boils down to the food choices you make for your kids.

Loading up on fruits and veggies is good for your health but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the healthiest choice. Remember that the body also draws nutrients from other food groups like protein from meat, fish, and poultry and energy from sugars and carbs. Your best guide for portioning meal components is the food plate. You may also give your kids some supplements to make sure that they don’t miss out on essential micro and macronutrients. One example of which is Similac Gainschool, a milk drink which is specially formulated for kids age 3 and above.

Once the body is properly nourished, we can help our kids develop healthy minds through fun and meaningful learning experiences. This includes everything from schoolwork, hobbies, sports, and other play activities. A healthy balance of academic, physical, and leisure activities is a good formula for nourishing the mind. As for a child’s spirit, the best nourishment that parents can give is a combination of unconditional love, support, and encouragement.

Raising kids with a healthy mind, body, and spirit starts with proper nutrition. We know that parents have become more conscious about health and wellness during this pandemic. This is a great step towards a healthier and fuller life for the family.

The good news is, you are not alone in this journey towards proper nutrition. Abbot and Shopee is having a Nutrition for the Whole Family campaign from May 12 to May 14. During this period shoppers are given access to special content features like nutrition tips from the Alagang Abbot Facebook page where you can discover different nutrients and how they help fight against illnesses and infections.
