Hanabishi Appliances is celebrating Mother’s Day with a special video titled, “Cullen-ary 101” featuring popular music artist Josh Cullen and his mother, Mommy Aldrene. In the cooking video, the mother and son prepare some of their favorite dishes and share stories about their family life with tenderness and humor.
“ Alam kong maraming nagre-request sa inyo kung paano nga ba ako magluto. Pero wait, there’s more (I know many of you have been requesting for a cooking video. But wait, there’s more),” Josh said during his intro as he called in his mom to join him in the kitchen.
The Story Behind Josh’s Favorite Spaghetti
One of the dishes they prepared is spaghetti, and Josh shared that his mom’s version is his favorite.
“ Si Mama ko din kasi ang pinakamagaling na magluto ng spaghetti. So, ang recipe ng spaghetti ko is derived from her spaghetti recipe (My mother cooks one of the best spaghettis, and my recipe came from her,” Mommy Aldrene said, honoring her own mother.
Josh then went on to say that during the time when they were hard-up, she encouraged her mom to sell spaghetti, but they didn’t have the capital to start a business.
“ Kaya naman pag meron lang kaming pera, tsaka lang kami nakakain ng spaghetti during those tough times (It was only when we had money that we could afford to eat spaghetti during those tough times),” Josh recalled.
In cooking the spaghetti, Josh and his mom used the Hanabishi Induction Cooker HIC200, an induction stove that provides 80% more cooking efficiency. It has a slim design, LED display, 8 cooking functions (soup, braise, boil, slow fire, fierce fire, hot pot, deep fry, and fry), overheat auto cutoff, high-quality ceramic plate, manual cooking power level, and time control. It also comes with a free stainless pot when you buy it.
Josh and His BBQs
As his mom cooked the rest of the spaghetti, Josh started grilling barbecues using the Hanabishi Smokeless Indoor Grill HSMOKELESS50, which he said is his favorite product from the brand and they actually own one at home.
Using this griller makes cooking barbecues easier, as it has a non-stick ceramic grill plate, handles and a glass cover, built-in exhaust fan, removable drip tray, and detachable power cord. To help ensure that you don’t burn your food, it is equipped with an easy-to-use 120-230C adjustable temperature control.
“Lulutuin ko na kayo (I will now cook you),” Josh said teasingly. He has made no secret of his fondness for his BBQs.
He then went on to share that what he loves most about the Hanabishi Smokeless Indoor Griller is “ Hindi siya dumidikit. Hindi din nasusunog ang pan niya kaya, alam mo ‘yun, very convenient (It doesn’t stick. The pan also doesn’t overheat, you know, it’s very convenient).”
Another favorite of his is the Hanabishi 2in1 Water Dispenser with Ice-maker HFSWDICEM3500, which dispenses cold water and can also make ice.
More Anecdotes of Love and Sacrifice
As they waited for the BBQs to finish cooking, Mommy Aldrene recalled how they didn’t celebrate Mother’s Day years back because they didn’t have the money to do so. She said that her children would just greet her on the special day but they didn’t eat out.
“ Simple lang ang gusto ko, gusto ko magkasama-sama tayo (What I want is something simple; I just want us to be together),” she said when Josh asked her how she wanted to celebrate Mother’s Day this year.
Josh and Mommy Aldrene then proceeded to make garlic toast and fresh apple juice using the Hanabishi Aesthetic Electric Oven Toaster 10L HO10WHT and the Juice Extractor HPJ300.
The former comes with a bake tray and rack, and has a capacity of 10 liters, 100-250C temperature control, 60-minute timer with bell ring, two knobs for timer and thermostat, while the latter comes with a 1.5-liter pulp container and 500ml juice cup, and has a large feeding tube, stainless steel filter, nozzle with anti-drip function, 2 speeds, and is thermal fuse-protected.
As they prepared the garlic toast and juice, Josh and Mommy Adrene continued telling stories of how they got through the tough periods in their life with both tears and laughter.
“Ma, gusto ko lang magpasalamat. ‘Yung mga times na walang-wala…’yung mga times na kailangan ko ng someone to lean on, hindi ka sumuko (I just want to thank you for not giving up, especially during the times when we had nothing, and during the times when I needed someone to lean on),” Josh tells his mom, who raise him and his siblings as a single mother.
“I love you, anak, dahil hindi lang dahil sa sumikat ka, hindi ang kasikatan ang importante sakin (I love you, son, not because you became popular. Popularity is not something important for me). He made me proud and he is now a good influence to other people out there,” Mommy Aldrene said.
