When was the last time you went to the dentist? Like most people, our trip to the dentist became the least priority at the height of the pandemic. But oral health is definitely something that we shouldn’t take for granted, so after 2 years of lockdown, I finally had my dental appointment at Affinity Dental Clinics in Ortigas.
I opted for a Sunday appointment, the last week of October, so we can avoid heavy traffic. It was my first time visiting Affinity Dental Clinics and was pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome from the friendly staff and the modern interiors of the clinic. It offered a calming environment for patients with warm and inviting tones in its design elements. I’d say that this is the most aesthetically pleasing dental clinic I’ve ever been to. The coordinated interiors of the receiving area made it look even better than some hotel lobbies that I’ve been to.
Not just that, the lobby is also designed to provide comfort for both patients and their companions while waiting. They have a nice TV with Netflix so my husband and daughter didn’t mind hanging around while I was getting my treatment.
The very nice and accommodating Ms. Crystal welcomed us and prepared me for the treatment. She got the sanitized box containing PPE, pen, and dental forms.
After filling out the dental form, she assisted me in wearing my PPE and ushered me to my treatment suite. I went in for an Oral Prophylaxis with Dr. Christine “Tin” Nimedes as my dentist.
I was a bit embarrassed at first because I haven’t seen a dentist for almost 3 years. But I was quickly put at ease with her very professional demeanor. She was also light-handed which made everything more pleasant. Dr. Tin was also very accommodating in answering tons of questions from me. And because of that, I decided to go for veneers. But since it wasn’t part of the plan during our visit I needed to have another appointment which was not a problem at all.
We had a trip to Singapore on our calendar so it took me almost a month to return to Affinity Dental Clinics for my veneers. Just like our first visit, we received a warm welcome from the receptionist. Dra Tin and her assistant made sure that I was comfortable since the procedure may take 2 hours. I decided to get the direct composite veneers because my front teeth aren’t ideally shaped. This is why I’m self-conscious about my smile sometimes.

There are two types of veneers: composite and porcelain. Composite veneers are made of composite resin, a mixture of inorganic and organic materials. They are alternatives to porcelain veneers which are more durable. The bonding material used to make these veneers is the same as tooth-colored dental fillings.
Composite veneers can stain more readily over time compared to porcelain. On the plus side, composite provides a more conservative option because you only need to repair chipped areas when composite veneers are damaged whereas the entire veneer needs to be replaced if a part of the porcelain veneer gets damaged.
The procedure took quite some time but I didn’t mind because Dr. Tin and her staff checks on me from time to time. I also didn’t experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure because my dentist was really light-handed. The relaxing music video on the TV also helped and almost lulled me to sleep. The procedure went smoothly and I was happy with the result. I just need to get used to the new and improved shape of my front teeth. I got two more front teeth that could use veneers and I’m considering it already. I actually feel more confident and beautiful with the improved look I got from my new veneers.
I’m glad I had that talk with Dr. Tin about veneers. I didn’t expect that it would make that much difference in my looks but it did.
