Losing weight through the Ideal Protein Diet Program motivated me to continue being fit and healthy. I am already conscious of making healthy food choices for our family. As far as fitness activity is concerned, my options are going to the gym or running but I want to have a partner with me so I won’t get lazy. I guess you could say that the invitation to cover the 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run came at just the right time. It was a great opportunity for me and my husband to start our fitness regimen together.
The Robinsons Supermarket’s 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run was held last July 2, 2017 at the Parade Grounds of Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. It’s a fun run that provides an opportunity for runners and fitness newbies to run towards the finish line alongside their partners. The idea is to make running more fun and exciting, especially when it is done with a friend or loved one. So on the day of the event, my husband and I woke up early and went to Camp Aguinaldo together with our blogger friends Jeff and Jen. We got there at around 5:30 am and prepared ourselves for the run.
Hundreds of running pairs participated in the Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run which was hosted by volleyball superstar and TV personality Gretchen Ho. According to Robinsons Supermarket General Manager, Mr. Jody Gadia, the event is a kick-off activity to celebrate the Wellness and Nutrition Month. He further stated that the fun run has been a much anticipated event for a lot of people brining in a mix of loyal runners and fitness newbies to the event.
I admit that I am neither a runner nor athletic so a 5-kilometer run is a big deal for a beginner like me. If I remember correctly, the last time I ran was about 5 years ago and it was only 3 kilometers. So, my husband and I agreed that we will take it easy on the run. It was a good thing that Coaches Jim and Toni Saret were there to prep-up the runners with a short work out. They also invited everyone to register onsite for the Fit Filipino 1 Million Pounds National Weight Loss Challenge. It’s an on-ground and online wellness program which aims to encourage Filipinos to lose weight and pledge their weight loss contribution to the national goal.
After being prepped by the coaches, hundreds of running pairs set off for the finish line. As agreed earlier my husband and I went on an easy run, running at the start, then walking and jogging a bit, and then it became more of a walk than a run afterwards. We met a couple of blogger friends along the race and we got to chat with them while walking. It was actually fun even if we didn’t really run the whole way. Taking it easy is still a fun exercise and we hardly noticed that we were almost finished with the 5-kilometer run.
Finishing the race felt good but there was a bonus treat waiting for all the runners, a bag of groceries from Robinsons Supermarket. The unexpected treat made the event more fun for us. I heard about this run before but I never thought of joining it. Imagine this is the 10th run already, had I joined it earlier I would’ve enjoyed the benefits sooner. You get to have a fulfilling exercise and grocery treats too.
It was only 8:00 am but I already had 11,000 steps logged. I was also expecting to be really tired when I got home but surprisingly I was energized the whole day. Now, that’s what I call a worthwhile run. We are definitely joining again next year.
Participants of the 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Run also got to visit exciting booths and lots of freebies from top brands in the country. These include Nestle Philippines, Johnson & Johnson, Fonterra, Unilab and Wyeth Nutrition, Uniliver, International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated, Procter & Gamble, Abbott Nutrition, Getz Bros., Ecossential, Del Monte, Foodsphere Inc., and Philusa.
Robinsons Supermarket has been running a Wellness Campaign for some time now. Their aim is to encourage people to choose and live healthier lifestlyes. The 10th Fit & Fun Wellness Buddy Run is just one of the many programs in their campaign. This July, Robinsons Supermarket is also giving away Healthy You Snack Platters for a minimum purchase of Php3,000 inclusive of Php500 worth of participating items in the Wellness Festival.
