Having a healthy way of living is not that easy nowadays as more and more chemicals are being used for various purposes that can both help us and affects us, especially in terms of our health. A concrete example of this is the chemicals used as preservatives to, of course, preserve our foods, thus prolonging its shelf life. But, this chemicals can also affect our health.

Good thing, there is a bistro that can help us have a healthy living by providing us organic foods, which means free from harmful chemicals, like pesticides, while helping the Filipino farmers as the same time. I am talking about sustainable foods at Le Bistro Vert. Menus at Le Bistro Vert are the creations of a world-class chef, Chef Sau del Rosario; these are mainly made from, as much as possible, chemical-free local agricultural products with a twist of rich European-style culinary culture. By doing so, local farmers can be sustained by helping them sell their products, which can encourage them to continue the production for sustainability.

One of these sustainable products is the Filipino all-time favorite – the coffee. Philippines have different coffee varieties that are even exported on other countries. Coffees that are certified to be of good quality Philippine coffee are sealed with Kape Isla seal. So, if you’re one of the many coffee-enthusiasts, be glad for there is a FREE Kape Isla Philippine coffee at Le Bistro Vert, Fraser Place, Valero St,Makati, which is only until March 31, 2010. To avail of this free Kape Isla Philippine coffee, simply use the code “KapeIsla164“. This is one way of La Bistro Vert to support and honor sustainable Philippine products.

But Le Bistro Vert serve not just coffee, Le Bistro Vert also offers special sustainable food menu from appetizers, salads, sandwiches, soups, desserts to main course.

For appetizers, we tried their Thai Style Dory Fish Cakes served with cucumber relish and sweet tamarind dip (Php 155).

For the salad, we ordered Arugula, Davao Blue Cheese and Cashew served with Apple Shreds and Balsamic Dressing (Php 175 ).

We got Spiced Pumpkin, Lime Yogurt and Pappadum (Php 90) for our soup.

And for our main course, others ordered Chicken Green Curry with Eggplant, Zucchini and Jasmin Rice (Php225.00)

Cashew & Herb Crusted Sole Fillet with Pea Puress, Burnt Lemon Butter Sauce and Potatoes (Php 295.00)

    Smoked Fish Putanesca (Php 195)

And I ordered Beer Battered Fish with camote chips, Spiced Vinegar and Lime Aioli (Php 275)

I really liked the Beer Battered Fish with Camote Chips, Spiced Vinegar and Lime Aioli.  The flavor is so rich that I can’t stop myself from grabbing a bite.  The fish was so tender; the beer batter coating was lite and crisp with a hint of malt taste. The camote chips were good too, crisp and firm. Yum!!!

Already drooling? I guess, it’s time for you to visit Le Bistro Vert and see and taste for yourself these sustainable food that I, myself can’t get enough of.

Anyway, Chit Juan, together with her fellow food-lover friends, Jeannie Javelosa, and Reena Francisco, the owner of the renowned green brand ECHOstore Sustainable Lifestyle gave rise to Le Bistro Vert (The Green Bistro).  ECHOstore Body Basics, like La Bistro Vert, also believes in promoting sustainable Philippine products to promote healthy living, while helping and encouraging our Filipino farmers market their crops and to continue to produce chemical-free harvests. ECHO is the acronym for Environment & Community Hope Organization STORE. In one place, you can get everything you need to start you on your way to living a sustainable lifestyle. Products of ECHOstore Body Basics are all natural and free from harmful chemicals. Aside from being friendly to our body, we can also help the ECHO Hope Fund to provide holistic health programs to marginalized communities, as percentage of their profits are allocated to their Hope Fund.

So, are you now ready to start having a sustainable way of living and help our very own Filipino farmers?
