Camera Review: Canon IXUS 100 IS

Now, another new gadget has emerged to ease up the life of gadget-loving people. What am I talking about? It’s the new Canon IXUS 100 IS – IS stands for Image Stabilization to counteract camera shake. It is the slimmest Canon compact camera, so far. With its light weight, with only 132g and a very small size, measuring 87x55x18mm, it can easily be glided in most pockets or purse. This means that it can be carried anywhere with utmost ease.

Canon IXUS 100 IS is actually 2mm thinner. As compare to previous Canon camera released. At first I thought it will easily slip out of my hand because of its rounded corners and absence of sharp edges, but then it really amazed me how it didn’t glide out of my hand due to its semi-matt finish, so I can easily hold on to it with just a single hand. No worries!

It has various available colors, too – from black, silver, gold and red. So you can choose whatever color you like that will fit your taste. As for me, I like the red one, as it signifies me of being a chic! (lol) Wait! There’s more! You can also purchase a WP-DC31 housing that is waterproof, in order to protect the camera (depths of 40m) even when you take shots under the water.

The rechargeable Lithium Ion battery pack, which houses an SD memory card slot, can last up to 210 shots. There is also a 3-way switch to set the camera in three ways – Auto, Normal Recording and Movie mode. In auto mode, which employs Scene Detection technology, aside from the typical function of this technology, it can also differentiate between bright conditions, blue skies or night-time and automatically adjust it to boost the colors of the image.  I love it’s Smart Auto shooting mode which intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 18 pre-defined shooting situations: Auto, P, Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Sunset, Fireworks, Long Shutter, Beach, Underwater, Aquarium, Foliage, Snow, ISO 3200, Digital Marco, Color Accent, Color Swap, Stitch Assist, Movie.

Canon IXUS 100 IS also produces high defintion video, but without the optical zoom. You can achieve playback directly to your TV via the HDMI connector on the camera or you can even post your videos on youtube.

To sum it all up, this one’s a good buy to teenage girls, women and people who love to have a functional gadget that will likewise make them look chic. Talking about user-friendly camera, this will surely top the list. Though this is not the cheapest digital camera in the market (Recommended Retail Price:PHP 21,950.00 based on www.canon.com.ph) , however the quality of this camera over the others that I have looked at makes it reasonable value for money.

Picture Quality – 4 out of 5
Range & Quality of Features – 4 out of 5
Ease of Use – 5 out of 5
Durability – 5 out of 5
Overall Look & Design – 4 out of 5
Value for Money – 4 out of 5

  6. This is a good deal, i just want to add something to the review. This camera somehow has a blink technology which is a common problem with other camera, if you blink your eye because of the flash, no worries you still have a great shot! Another thing, i have tested this camera against the light and i still have a great shot! other camera will give you dark faces of you have sunlight on your back. Thanks to the smart auto shooting mode.
