One of the housing decor trends that have stuck around for a while is the modern or rustic farmhouse. Whether it is the farmhouse vibe that you are pairing with neutrals or you are trying to DIY the pallet wood furniture, the farmhouse style has taken communities by storm, even though they may not be located anywhere near farmland. For homeowners from San Diego to the plains of Iowa, here are some ways to turn your home into a farmhouse retreat.

    Choose Natural and Neutral Tones

A farmhouse style is supposed to be neutral with soothing warm colors of cream, gray, beige, or white. Accents tend to highlight colors found in nature, such as brown, greens, or blue. Muted tones in eggshell finishes are the best for creating a soothing escape.

    Add Texture

The buzzword in farmhouse decor is shiplap, though planked walls and wainscoting aren’t far behind. Giving your walls texture to create the unmistakable look of a farmhouse. Many of the ideas have DIY options, keeping the renovations on a budget. Add texture through soft pillows or a throw rug. These are the easy extras that can be incorporated all throughout the house.

    Repurpose Antiques or Heirlooms

There is a lot you can do when you think creatively. Add some caster wheels to an old washbasin table to have a rolling coffee bar. Use old crates for shelving or stack and secure them for a new end table. There is a lot of character in old pieces that fit well into the farmhouse theme.

    Use Galvanized Metal

In addition to wood, a farmhouse style incorporates elements of galvanized metal. It could be from a planter with greenery or a few knick-knacks. Gunmetal gray and brushed bronze are classic options if the metal doesn’t work for you. Lighting fixtures or accent lighting is one of the more common ways to update the home and include the metallic component. Changing out doorknobs and hinges for more rustic metallic tones than the classic silver or brass is also a simple trick.

    Use Neutral Seating

You don’t have to splurge on new seating for a farmhouse look. Keep neutral pieces and build the style around what you have with small accent pieces. You want seating that is functional and cozy, plenty of room for your family and friends. A hammock is a perfect addition to any patio, garden, or pool deck, you can buy a Hammock online.  If you do end up changing your style, at least the furniture doesn’t have to go out with it.

A farmhouse look is popular right now, but it is a good look. These simple ideas can get you in on the decor trend taking the nation by storm.
