At an age when environmental health is in peril everyone must take an active part in reducing their environmental impact. This applies to both consumers and businesses. It is in this direction that Shakey’s is taking their business, towards going green by becoming 100% plastic-neutral.
Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. marks a milestone this year by being the first restaurant chain in the Philippines to be 100% plastic-neutral last January 2020. This means they are able to recover and recycle the same amount of plastic that they use thereby having a “net-zero plastic footprint”. Although this doesn’t eliminate their use of plastic altogether, it is able to help manage post-consumer waste.
Consumer companies face significant cost and performance challenges in finding more sustainable alternatives to plastic. While co-processing is not the perfect solution, it can mitigate the environmental impact of plastic usage,” said Shakey’s Chairman Christopher Po.
In this practice, recovered plastic is converted into alternative fuel that replaces coal in cement production or may be recycled for other purposes. Thus helping minimize environmental footprint and keep plastic away from the oceans.
Co-processing is meant to “balance out our environmental effects,” said Chairman Po. He added, “Our brands represent quality, value-for-money products. We hope that they will eventually stand for responsible consumption as well.
Shakey’s is one of the leading pizza chains in the country. They have been a part of great times and great memories for a lot of families for over 40 years now. This move to be 100% plastic- neutral simply shows that Shakey’s puts value not just in high quality products and service but also in running a sustainable and responsible business.
