MANILA, PHILIPPINES, NOVEMBER 11, 2019 – TikTok, the leading destination for short-form mobile video, unveiled today a region-wide All-Star talent competition that aims to discover and incubate new creators in Southeast Asia, even as a study reveals that short-form video is one of the top three content formats that people prefer to use as a tool to express their creative ideas.

The inaugural TikTok All-Star Southeast Asia 2019 competition is open for submission today across all six markets in the region including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Based on a study conducted with YouGov, an international research and data analytics group, photo/illustrations (63%), short-form video (51%) and music (44%) are identified by respondents across Southeast Asia as the top three content formats preferred to express creativity. The study also finds photo/illustrations (69%), music (60%) and short-form video (56%) as the top three content formats that inspire creativity2.

When asked about the importance of digital content creators, majority of the respondents across Southeast Asia1 agree that content creators are important today (85%) and will become even more important in the future (78%). Of those who agree, the top reasons include marketing moving away from traditional content and towards more digital content (62%), the variety of digital content that has something for everyone (58%), and the fact that creators provide a source of inspiration for others (55%)2.

By offering a home for creative expression with its easy-to-use video capturing and editing tools, TikTok is the perfect fit for budding talents seeking to showcase their ideas through short-form videos. Whether it is combining their own photos with various on-screen effects and music or creating videos with the most popular music, TikTok supports creators to develop content and achieve the most ideal effect that reflects their creative desire.

“Fueled by the rise of mobile as a key device for content consumption along with the short attention spans of today’s consumers, short-form videos have become one of the preferred formats for expression, particularly among the mobile-savvy audience,” said John Castro, User and Content Operations Manager, TikTok Philippines. “Across Southeast Asia and in the Philippines, TikTok is a home for creativity and self-expression, and we are excited to be able to introduce a platform such as TikTok All-Star Southeast Asia 2019 that showcases the diversity of creative content in the region as well as the creators behind it.”
