Good oral care starts with proper oral hygiene. This is why it is important to instil good brushing habits even at an early age. I am not just talking about simple “brush your teeth after meals” habit here. Kids have to learn about proper brush strokes and flossing in order to ensure that their teeth are clean. It doesn’t sound like fun at all but there are ways to get kids interested in these oral care lessons. In our case, toothbrush time is HAPEE time and fun time with these tricks.
1. The more the merrier.
Brushing your teeth is more fun when you have company. This is why my daughter and I always brush our teeth together. I also take our toothbrush time as an opportunity to model proper brushing to my daughter i.e. using circular strokes and thorough brushing.
2. Get kidciting tools.
With the right tools kids will look forward to brushing their teeth often. Think toothbrushes and toothpastes with their favourite characters.
It’s a good thing that Hapee Kiddie toothpaste has 7 kidciting flavors and feature characters that make our brush time fun time too. Not just that, my daughter also enjoys choosing the toothpaste flavour and character for our HAPEE time. But of course fun isn’t the only factor in choosing our toothpaste, I also make sure that it has enough fluoride to help prevent cavities and make teeth stronger.
Now that Hapee Kiddie toothpaste has it newly improved cavity protection, I am more confident with my choice since Hapee Kiddie toothpastes are formulated with the 1,000 PPM fluoride level recommended by dentists at this age.
3. Add Music
We often use songs or games to help encourage regular brushing. Music can also be used as a timer so your child knows exactly how long they need to brush for. 2 mins is the recommended time for brushing.
This makes our oral care lessons feel less serious and more fun.
4. Let The Kids Take Over
When Sammy turned 4, she wants to do everything for herself, including brushing her teeth. But of course, I watch her carefully, checking if she’s brushing her teeth the right way. I’m sure your kids will enjoy their independence, like Sammy 😁
Getting kids to brush their teeth can be a challenge, but there are lots of ways to make this task more fun for young children!
