Gumtect for a Maginhawa Food Trip This Holiday Season

I was invited to join a food crawl dubbed as the Gumtect Food Trek: A mouth-full Adventure. Aside from a food adventure, we also get to be with Doug and Chesca Kramer during the trek. Since I really love to eat, I said yes to the crawl. Then there is also the bonus of being with a celebrity couple during the trip. With everything confirmed I’m all set for my Food Trek adventure.

Even though everything was already set, I almost backed out of the activity on the day of the food trek. This is because my daughter Sam started crying when she realized I was leaving without her. Thankfully the organizers were kind enough to let me bring her along to the Food Trek. I didn’t think it would be much of a hassle to have a child along since a food trek would only involve food sampling. But I was wrong! The Gumtect Food Trek is not your ordinary food crawl. This is because there are also fun challenges waiting for the participants at every stop.

First stop is at Gerry’s Jeepney

This themed restaurant offers the unique experience of dining inside a jeepney. Guests can enjoy their favourite Filipino dishes like Sizzling Pork Sisig, Binagoongang Lechon Kawali, and more. You have the option to have your meals served boodle-style, groupset, or ala carte.

For this trip we had Sinigang na Salmon sa Miso, Pusit ala Pobre, and Chicken BBQ. My daughter loved the Sinigang and I enjoyed the Pusit.

After our meal, there was a small talk with Dr. JV Jaurigue, External Vice President of the Philippine Society of Periodontology. The talk focused on gum problems and how to take care of your gums. According to Dr. Jaurigue “Oral care is essential to our health. Rather than dealing with complications and difficulties of gum diseases, it is better to prevent them from happening”. He also stressed the importance of proper oral care as well as the connection between gum health and our overall health.

First Gumtect Food Trek Challenge: Mais Con Hielo Relay

We were grouped into 5 teams with 4-5 members in each team. 3 team members are given one Mais con Hielo each that they need to finish one at a time. The first member needs to finish his/her serving before the second member can start eating his/her share. The first team to finish gets the highest points. I didn’t consider it much of a challenge because I love eating Mais con Hielo. Diane, Marco, and I represented the Blue Team but unfortunately, we were one of the last ones to finish. I think somehow our strategy shifted from winning the challenge to simply enjoying the Mais con Hielo instead.

Second stop is at Soru Izakaya

This is where we got to enjoy Japanese dishes like the Tantanmen and Akai Paella Maki. The food really tasted great especially the Maki! My daughter also enjoyed the Ramen.

Second Gumtect Food Trek Challenge: Sip The Noodle

As for the second food trek challenge, we were asked to do the Sip the Noodle Challenge. This time each team needs 4 members to finish the hot Ramen in the shortest time possible. Again I ask, where is the challenge there? Ramen is so yummy it so easy to eat is fast. For our team, Marco finished first then I went next, and I thought we were doing well. Unfortunately, the other teams were still faster than us. We may not have won the challenge but we still feel like winners because of the yummy food. Plus, Doug and Chesca Kramer joined us at this stop.

Doug and Chesca Kramer are the oral healthcare advocates for Gumtect. They shared with us the importance of taking care of their teeth and gums in enjoying foodie moments and celebrations with family and friends. To quote:

“Despite our busy schedules, we enjoy the gatherings and reunions to relax and catch up over food,” shared Doug. “I have a really sweet tooth, and I enjoy having conversations over dessert, but for me to be able to just enjoy the food, I also ensure to make these -ber months care months for my gums and teeth so there’s no hassle of gum problems”.

Doug also endorses the use of Gumtect Gum Care Toothpaste for oral care. This toothpaste works to promote healthy gums by protecting it from harmful mouth bacteria as well as moisturizing and strengthening the gums.

As for Chesca, she shared that her sensitive teeth can get in the way of enjoying holiday dishes with her loved ones.

“I want to maximize my bonding moments with my family, especially enjoying food together like ice cream and buko salad. I want to be able to indulge in my favorite holiday dishes without having to think about pangingilo,” Chesca said.

People in the same situation need to start paying attention to their gums. This is because receding gums are often accompanied by tooth sensitivity. A 2011 study by the National Monitoring and Evaluation Dental Survey shows that 48% of Filipinos suffer from some form of gum disease. Chesca recommends the use of Gumtect Sensitive Toothpaste and Gumtect Sensitive Mouthwash. These gum protection products are specially formulated with Dynamic Desensitizing System that helps relieve tooth sensitivity.

Third Stop is The Round Robin Café

Third Gumtect Food Trek Challenge: Gum Facts Trivia

My fellow food trekkers and I are to face our third challenge first before checking out the café menu. This time it doesn’t involve eating which was great because I’m so full already.

Challenge #3 is a Q&A contest with clues hidden around the café. Participants need to find the clues and bring the correct answer in front to win points. Each correct answer is equivalent to 60 points and the team with the highest number of points wins the game. We made our comeback in this round and won with two correct answers out of three questions.

The challenge was indeed an energy burner because we all had room in our tummies after the challenge. Round Robin Café offers desserts and pastries that are food crawl worthy. Since sweet dessert is my weakness, I was so looking forward to what they had to offer. We had Key Lime Pie, Lemon Square, and Chocolate Cake. Oh so yummy!

FOURTH STOP is at Ka-Pe DIY Filipino Coffee Shop

Fourth Gumtect Food Trek Challenge: Iced Coffee Challenge

Coffee is a great way to cap off a great meal and Ka-Pe DIY offers just that. But our food trek challenges aren’t over yet as we come to face challenge #4: COLD coffee drinking relay. Challenge rules are the same as the first challenge except that we need to finish cold coffee instead of the Mais con Hielo. Since I’m quite competitive I joined the challenge. I never imagined I could finish a cup of cold coffee in less than 30 seconds but I did! Unfortunately, we still lost to the other teams. But that doesn’t really matter because we all enjoyed the game. Plus, our defeat was easily washed away by the Choco Strawberry Shake that my daughter and I enjoyed after the game.

The Gumtect Food Trek was definitely more than just a mouth-full adventure.

The food was great, the challenges were fun, and the talks were informative. I actually joined all 4 challenges they had, now that is how competitive I am (LOL). That was only because I was confident that I could do it.

But if I was faced with the same challenge a year ago, I might have backed out of it. Why? It’s because I had gum problems. I had bleeding gums and tooth sensitivity. Eating anything hot, cold, sweet, or sour can trigger the nerves thereby causing pain and discomfort. Even if it’s as soft as ice cream, the sensation is like biting down on tiny razors. The pain shoots through the tooth and right into your brain. Definitely not the most pleasant experience in the world. It’s so painful.

    Ang sakit!!!

This prompted me to consult my dentist and ask why I often experience tooth sensitivity. I learned that you should also pay attention to your gums. It is not enough that you have straight and white teeth, or you’re cavity free. You also have to make sure that you are free from gum disease.

Now, what exactly is gum disease?

As kids, we have already learned that plaque causes tooth decay. But what we didn’t know is that it can also cause infections that hurt the gum and bone. Gum disease actually starts when plaque builds up under and along the gum line. The earliest stage of gum disease is gingivitis. This condition is usually characterized by inflamed, tender, red, and swollen gums that are also prone to bleeding. But don’t worry because this condition is still reversible.

However, if not addressed properly it may lead to periodontitis. This is an advanced form of gum disease that can ruin the gums, bones, and tissues connected to your teeth when left untreated. Advanced periodontitis is the final stage of gum disease and at this point, the fibers and bone supporting your teeth are destroyed. This can impact your bite and may result in the removal of your teeth.

    source: newteethforme.com

How do you know if you have gum disease? According to the American Dental Association (ADA), these are the signs you need to watch out for:

    • consistently bad taste or breath
    • separating or loose permanent teeth
    • gums that easily bleed
    • gums that are swollen, red, or tender
    • gums that have pulled away from your teeth

The good news is that gum disease is preventable. This can easily be done by forming good oral care habits. Aside from brushing teeth after meals here are some habits that you can add.

SIMPLE WAYS TO PREVENT GUM DISEASE

    1. Brush properly. Food and plaque trapped between your teeth and gums can harden and become more difficult to remove if you leave it there for some time. Brushing your teeth after every meal makes it easier to remove anything stuck in your teeth. Don’t forget to brush your tongue too as they can also harbor bacteria. Using the right toothbrush with soft bristles also makes brushing more efficient.
    2. Floss at least once a day. This helps remove plaque and tooth left in hard to reach areas between your teeth.
    3. Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleaning. Aside from getting a thorough clean, your dentist can also help detect early gum disease symptoms. This way you can treat gum problems immediately. In the case of those who have gum problems already, regular visits to the dentist can help reverse the condition quickly.
    4. Use the right toothpaste and mouthwash. There are a lot of oral care products available for treating gingivitis, freshening breath, and whitening teeth. But the best products are often those that are recommended by dentists. In my case, my dentist recommends GUMTECT.

Why use Gumtect Gum Care Toothpaste?

Gumtect has 2 variants: Gumtect Gum Care and Gumtect Sensitive

Gumtect Gum Care toothpaste stimulates the growth of new tissues for faster wound healing and reduces inflammation. It also soothes and moisturizes gums as well as inhibits bacterial growth. This is the only gum care brand with Gumshield+.

Gumshield+ works to help repair, renew, and rejuvenate gums through

    • Allantoin – stimulates growth of new tissues
    • Vitamin E – soothes and moisturizes the gums
    • Triclean – reduces inflammation and inhibits bacterial growth

Aside from the Gumshield+, Gumtect Gum Care also has an Active Anti-Cavity Protection that helps keep your breath fresh and ensure strong teeth enamel that is protected from cavities.

Those who suffer from sensitive teeth can find relief in Gumtect Sensitive Toothpaste. It has a Dynamic Desensitizing System that helps prevent the pain caused by sensitive teeth as it protects the exposed dentin of the teeth. Just like the Gumtect GumCare Toothpaste, it also has an Active Anti-Cavity Protection.

You can use it together with the Gumtect Sensitive Mouthwash which is clinically proven to enhance relief from hypersensitivity. It is alcohol free and aids in preventing cavities without causing any burning sensation.

I’ve been using Gumtect for a year now and I am very satisfied with it. I no longer suffer from bleeding gums or tooth sensitivity. As such, I am able to enjoy all my meals without any fear of pain. It’s also probably why I seem to be growing in the middle (LOL).

Gumtect Sensitive and Gumtect Gumcare are products of Lamoiyan, the makers of Hapee Toothpaste which my daughter also uses. I love Lamoiyan toothcare products because they are not pricey but still very effective. Every product they make is a result of their continuous pursuit of research and development with strict adherence to quality. It also makes me feel proud that Lamoiyan is a Filipino company and their Gumtect Gum Care Toothpaste is the 1st Filipino gum formula toothpaste that helps prevent occurrence of weak bleeding gums and singaw.

I didn’t back out from the challenges at the Gumtect Food Trek because I am confident of my teeth and gums. I knew that my teeth and gums are ready to take on the challenge of non-stop eating and drinking especially this holiday season. In the end, I had plenty of takeaways from the Gumtect Food Trek Experience. Aside from the memories of a fun and challenging food adventure with my daughter, I also got a lot of tidbits about gum care.
