Six Tips for Staying Healthy When You’re Always Busy

Our day-to-day lives are busier and more fast-paced than ever before, which for many people can directly take a toll on their health and well-being. Busy lives crammed full of deadlines and things to get done will not only affect your mental health and stress levels, but can also have an impact on your physical wellness. It’s not uncommon for those who are doing too much to suffer from headaches, back pain, muscle and joint aches, and more.
The good news is that by making some simple changes to your diet and everyday habits, you can make it easier for your body and mind to cope with your high workload. Eating well and promoting healthy habits during your daily routine will give you the strength, stamina and calm that you need to carry on and work well. We’ve put together a list of supplements, remedies and diet tips that could help you cope better with the pressure.

Tip #1. Use Essential Oils:
A popular natural remedy for a wide range of different issues, essential oils come in a huge array of scents and can be used to help you relax, feel better, de-stress, and feel more energized. If you’re struggling to unwind and relax at night, affecting your sleep, you might want to try a few drops of calming lavender or chamomile essential oil on your pillow, or infuse your bath water with them before bed time. If you need an energy boost, inhaling lemon, mandarin, or peppermint essential oil can be a much healthier alternative to plying yourself with caffeine. One of the best ways to benefit from all the goodness of essential oils is to use an aromatherapy essential oil diffuser. This will diffuse the essential oils into the air in your bedroom, living room or workspace where you can breathe it in.

Tip #2. Season with Turmeric:
Turmeric is a popular spice used in many curry dishes, but did you know that it can be one of the best things for your health and well-being? It’s no surprise that it’s known as a super-supplement that can help with almost any issue, from reducing inflammation and swelling to helping improve your stress levels and mental well-being. The active ingredient in turmeric is called curcumin, and this has been proven to help with a wide variety of conditions, including a range of mental health disorders, various types of cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Since it contains anti-inflammatory properties, adding more of this spice to your food can particularly help with improving symptoms of muscle aches and back pain due to overworking.

Tip #3. Get More Probiotics:
Breakfast might be the most important meal of the day but all too often, busy and hard-working people simply don’t have the time to eat a hearty and healthy breakfast in between getting themselves and their families ready for the day ahead. If this sounds like you, then the good news is that quickly eating a yogurt in the morning could be all that you need. Probiotics can be found in natural yogurt and many companies have even come up with yogurt drinks that are great for busy people on the go. Probiotics are friendly bacteria which inhabit the gut, making up one of the most important components of the immune system, in addition to improving the digestive process and protecting your body from harmful pathogens. So, a yogurt drink in the morning could help protect you from disease and help you avoid uncomfortable bloating and more.

Tip #4. Take Fish Oil Supplements:
Fish oil supplements are available in tablet form, making them easy enough to fit in around your busy lifestyle. For a long time, fish oil has been praised for its ability to protect against heart disease and strengthen the cardiovascular system thanks to high concentrations of Omega-3 and Omega-6. Even if you don’t have the time to cook up fresh oily fish several times a week, taking fish oil supplements on a daily basis alongside a moderately healthy diet means that you’ll be able to reap the benefits. Diets high in Omega-3 tend to be linked to a faster and healthier metabolism, higher levels of HDL (‘good’ cholesterol), and better absorption of nutrients.

Tip #5. Stay Hydrated:
It’s a simple enough way to look after your health and well-being, but it’s all too easy for us to get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to drink enough water. Maybe you’ve gotten into a routine of relying on caffeinated or sugar-laden beverages to get you through the day, but whilst these might be useful for a short while, they’re more likely to lead to a mental crash later on. Staying hydrated is essential for both your body and mind, so keep a bottle of water at your desk and aim to drink around two liters every day. This will help keep your mind fresh and clear, improve digestion, and provide much-needed hydration to aching muscles.

Tip #6. Take Short Breaks:
Last but not least, working flat-out for hours is never the best option for you, even if it feels like you can get more done that way. Taking short breaks is a healthy way to keep your mind fresh and certainly essential if most of your work is done in front of a computer screen. If you can, get up for a short stroll around the office every hour or so, and take longer breaks more infrequently. If you can, get out of the office for some fresh air, that’s always a great option since you’ll come back feeling better refreshed and ready to tackle the next task. Make sure that you’re having enough days off, too – for busy entrepreneurs especially, not allowing themselves enough time off can often become the main cause of burn-out, anxiety and depression. Give yourself at least one full day off every week to relax and enjoy some ‘me’ time.

A busy life can be a productive life, but it’s important to make sure that your hard-working attitude doesn’t have a negative effect on your health and well-being.
