    Paint-Me-A-Bag Workshop at Gateway Gallery

Gateway Gallery offers another creative pursuit this summer under the Artsy Workshop banner, a program that started in 2015. The art workshop gives kids and teens, aged 8 to 16 years old, the chance to learn painting, using bags as material under the mentorship of one of the most passionate artists today, Ginny Guanco.

The Paint Me A Bag Workshop happens on May 26, Saturday, from 1 to 5 pm at the Gateway Gallery. It is open to all boys and girls who are inclined to the arts, especially those who have not taken up any formal art lessons. It is an inspiring introductory activity that will thrill the students as the end-product is a mobile art that can be used by the student.

The paint-a-bag workshop is the first of its kind to be offered by Gateway Gallery. In the half day workshop, Artist Ginny Guanco will guide the young ones on the rudiments of basic drawing, shading and of adding highlights on the design using motifs that appeal to the young.  She will also guide them on the proper painting techniques on fabric bags and develop their confidence in branching out to other clothing items such as t-shirts, denims, jackets and even sneakers.

Ginny Guanco is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas. She pursued further studies in drawing, painting and watercolor at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. in the 1970s where she won first prize for a nude watercolor painting category (Spring Art Competition) and first prize in drawing, using pencil as her medium. When she returned to the country, she resumed her career as an art teacher. Afterwards, she joined 3 group exhibits, along with church mates who called themselves the Kurios Artists Guild. A change in career path led her to a hibernation from art for 15 years, but in 2012, she rediscovered her art roots and since then, she has never stopped drawing. Her first One-Woman show held on September 16, 2016 focused onthe “boho chic” lifestyle because of her fondness for bohemian fashion. Ginny now devotes her time to doing commissioned portrait paintings in watercolor and just last year, she has ventured into another art-related endeavour; hand-painting on tote bags. Lately, she has also started hand-painting on other clothing items such as blouses, denim jackets, jeans, skirts and sneakers.

The Paint Me A Bag workshop fee is Php 1,500 and includes the workshop materials. Workshop fee is payable upon reservation. To register, contact Gateway Gallery at 588-8300 or direct message at its Facebook page at GatewayGalleryPH. Gateway Gallery is the art museum of Araneta Center. It is located at the 5F Gateway Tower, Araneta Center, Quezon City. It is open daily, from 10 am to 7 pm.
