Hinulugang Taktak, Antipolo Cathedral, and mountain top resorts are popular tourist destinations in Antipolo City. Now a new city attraction has opened its doors for locals and tourists to enjoy, Robinsons Place Antipolo. This two level mall has a modern tropical look that gives you a combination of the city vibe with a rustic feel. The mall façade is quite eye catching with its unconventional design using different roof lines, warm earth tones, canopies, louvers, and trellises. The overall look is more of a picturesque neighborhood instead of your typical mall. I couldn’t help but admire it every time we would pass it on our way to Antipolo Cathedral.
Robinsons Antipolo has everything you need in a mall. The whole family can get their basic necessities from Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, and Robinsons Appliance Center. You can also find around 200 stores like Handyman, Toys R Us, Daiso, and other well-known brands for your shopping needs. As for entertainment, you can choose from four digital movie houses which includes a 3-D cinema.
I finally had my chance to explore the mall when Baby Sam and I decided to go on a food trip with some of my friends.
The al fresco restaurants and food outlets are quite inviting amidst the modern tropical landscape of the mall. Foodies will be happy to know that Robinsons Antipolo has a good mix of global chains, local, and homegrown restaurants.
Our first stop is Marison’s. I have heard so many good things about this restaurant from my friends. I also saw a Kris TV episode featuring Marison’s which made me more excited to see what they got. Marison’s serves traditional Filipino cuisine done in the non-traditional way. The nice thing about food tripping with your friends is that you get to try a lot of dishes without stuffing yourself too much. All the dishes that we tried tasted good but there were some that really stood out.
First is the Deep Fried Kesong Puti with Spicy Pineapple Sambal Dip. I was hesitant to try this dish at first but I got a pleasant surprise on my first bite. I really liked combination of the natural cheese flavor and the sweet and spicy blend of the dip. For me the level of sweetness and spiciness is just right to compliment the Kesong Puti. I also liked the crunch that came with it.
The Ensalada Marison also made a good impression on my taste buds. It has fresh mixed greens, grapes, dried mangoes, and roasted cashew nuts drizzled with mango cilantro dressing. The mixed greens were really fresh and crisps and the sweet and tangy flavor of the dressing is just perfect for my palate.
Their version of Pork Binagoongan is Lechon Kawali mixed with toasted alamang, served with eggplant and fresh green mango. Unlike the usual binagoongan, this one doesn’t have much sauce in it. But even without much sauce, this dish has a savory and fiery kick that calls for more rice.
Those who want fish in their menu can try the Sinaing na Buntot ng Tuna. This one is fried tuna fishtail served with sauce and pork cracklings. I find this dish interesting because it offers a healthy alternative to crispy pata.
Our lunch will not be complete without my favorite dish Kare-Kare. Marison’s Crispy Tripe Kare-Kare has tender beef slices in peanut and cashew-based sauce, topped with crispy tripe, and served with house bagoong. This dish is a winner! I have tried plenty of versions of kare-kare but this one tops them all. I’m sorry to say that this is even better than my mom’s recipe. The peanut and cashew sauce has a smooth texture and a good balance of sweet and salty flavors. You can actually enjoy it even without the bagoong. I simply cannot describe how good it tastes. Now I know why this dish is a bestseller in this restaurant.
We were given the privilege to try Marison’s newest dish, the Angus Beef Bicol Express, even if it wasn’t available in their menu yet. They made a twist in the traditional Bicol Express dish by using Angus Beef instead of the usual pork. The rich flavor of Angus beef is even more amplified with the spicy coconut cream sauce creating a new gustatory experience for diners.
We ended our meal with a dessert that is perfect for summer, Marison’s version of the Halo-Halo (P 120). It has the standard mix of halo-halo ingredients but with their signature mix of finely shaved ice blended with milk. I love the velvety smooth texture of the ice and the way it releases creamy notes as it melts in your mouth.
After a filling lunch, our next stop is Costa Coffee Shop. It is the largest coffee shop chain in the United Kingdom and consistently named as the “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in Europe.”
This is great news for self-confessed coffee addicts like me. I am so happy to have a Costa Coffee Shop near our area. I immediately fell in love with the place as soon as we walked in. The coffee aroma and the scent of freshly baked bread is just wonderful. It also has a very homey feel that makes you want to hang out more.
Their bestselling coffee drink is the Costa Flat White. It is an extracted shot of Cortissimo coffee smothered in a thin layer of milk bubbles which are carefully poured to form a florette design.
I tried the Double Chocolate Cookie Mocha which had a thicker taste and texture. The coffee base was stronger and the whipped cream was fuller. It’s definitely not too sweet like other ice blended drinks from other coffee shops, and I liked it!
Costa Coffee also offers a wide selection of pastries, cakes, and salads to match your favorite drink. Pair your drink with traditional Costa’s house sweets such as Original London Cheesecake, Dark Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake, Strawberry Shortcake or Chocolate Tiffin. Costa also serves sweets with Pinoy flavor such as the Calamansicle, a local lemon square, Ube Custard Cake and Mango Sago Mousse Cake made by the chefs of Crowne Plaza and Manila Catering.
If you want great coffee and good food with a London vibe, then Costa Coffee Shop should be your next stop. It’s a great place to catch up with friends or get some work done! The baristas are very friendly and helpful too!
I felt really full after our visit to the coffee shop but I couldn’t resist the call of another favorite, shrimps! Our third stop is at the Shrimp Shack.
I simply had to taste a bit of what they had to offer. I got the Shrimp Scampi Spaghetti. I cannot get over the creamy auce with lots of flavorful shrimp and spices. I will definitely be coming back for more of this dish!
I also tried their Surf & Surf dish. It is a combination of their famous Garlic Shrimp or Chili Garlic Shrimp and Shrimp Popcorn. The Thai Chili sauce that comes with the set adds more flavor to this vibrant dish. It packs a lot of flavor from the minced garlic with some sweet and spicy chili drizzled all over the shrimps. I’m a shirmp lover so I love this place! I am so glad we decided to stop by this shack. It’s my first time and they didn’t disappoint me!
There’s still so much to discover, taste, and experience at Robinsons Antipolo. If you want barbeque, there is Ineng’s Barbecue. Those who are craving for Japanese may visit Kampai Sushi Bar at the lower ground floor. Aside from our food trip, I was really surprised to discover that there are a lot of things that you can do at Robinsons Place Antipolo. And there’s no better way to enjoy your mall experience than with the Robinsons Malls VIP Card. Get exclusive perks, privileges, and conveniences to kick up your mall experience a notch higher than the usual. You just can’t leave home without it.
My friends and I had a great time, and even my daughter enjoyed our stroll. There are plenty of reasons to come back for more mall experiences at Robinsons Place Antipolo. One good reason is the HOT SUMMER SALE on March 15-20! Shoppers can enjoy up to 70% OFF on great selections. So put this location in your map and get ready to shop.
Food, shopping, movies, scenic views, and relaxing ambiance makes it worthwhile to visit this mall. I will definitely be coming back for more visits with my husband and daughter.
