It’s not all the time when you get to have the chance to dress up and waltz around the ballroom of a five star hotel. We got to do that and more when we were treated to the Dancing at the Maynila event at the Manila Hotel. To top that off, we even got a complimentary overnight stay at no less than the hotel’s Superior Deluxe King room. It was definitely the break that hubby and I needed; a great reward for all the hard work we’ve been turning in over the past few months. For a taste of this weekend staycation of dancing, drinking, and relaxation, here goes a quick recap of what happened at the Manila Hotel early this month.
We decided to drive to the Manila Hotel and were not disappointed with our decision since there was ample parking. We got there at around three in the afternoon and, just like in most hotels, we were promptly taken up to our room so we can settle in.
The hotel has been around for quite some time. Although the “Old Manila” feel is still there, it did not feel old and stuffy at all. The hotel’s interiors and furnishings have interestingly been updated with the antique look but modern feel. It has all the standard amenities like a king sized bed, wifi access, an LCD TV, a keycard dock, and a safety box. It even has a television by the tub in the bathroom. Now, that’s something you do not see in every hotel! You really could not expect anything less for a room that’s priced at P9,000++ per night.
At 6pm, we were ready to traipse our way to the ballroom. I put my dancing shoes on with my simple red dress and hubby put on his coat and tie. It was a red and gold theme for him (admittedly an Iron Man fan).
The other bloggers we met up with outside the Maynila Ballroom were also all dolled up and dressed to the nines. It was such a rare occasion that we just had to take pictures (lots of it) of everyone.
Inside the ballroom, we had some drinks and some hors d’oeuvres. We felt a bit shy and awkward at first but the dance instructors eventually prodded us away from the cocktail tables. The bloggers had a blast twirling and spinning across the ballroom floor. My dance instructor was really good; he helped me through the steps despite my not-so-dance-friendly pair of wedges. The fun dancing was capped with a surprise gift of a bear stuffed toy, chocolate, and an organizer. You can enjoy all these for an entrance fee of P1,200 which already includes the welcome drink, a Signature Party Platter, the special gift, and a dance partner.
As we were having a great time, we decided to make the most of the occasion and headed to the Tap Room, Manila Hotel’s bar and restaurant. We tried out their signature drink and listened to the live band. The dancing and drinking eventually got us tired and we found ourselves heading back to our room before midnight. Cinderella would have been proud of us. But, just like this Disney princess, it’s back to reality the morning after the ball. After the buffet breakfast at the Café Ilang-Ilang, we had to get ready for the noon checkout. We would have wanted to stay a little longer to try out their swimming pool. Oh well! I guess, that’s just going to have to wait until our next staycation. In the meantime, it’s back to regular programming for us… Sutla Flawless, anyone?
