It has been one of my “travel dreams” to visit Davao because of the beautiful places and sceneries found there. Luckily, my dream came true and going there together with my blogger friends was a bonus! We stayed at the newly opened Park Inn By Radisson Davao, which was just beside SM Lanang Premier.
We arrived in Davao at around 11:30 in the morning of March 22, 2012. We decided to head straight to our hotel, Park Inn By Radisson Davao, to drop off our bags and get settled. We went for a walk around our hotel grounds, checked out the pool and other amenities. Then, we prepared for the Press Conference of the Park Inn.
The press conference was graced the by presence of Rey Villar, Executive Vice President of SM Hotels, Ms. Elizabeth Sy, SM Hotels President, Simon Barlow, President Carlson Rezidor Hotel Asia Pacific Group and Geir Sikko, Park Inn by Radisson Davao General Manager.
Ms. Elizabeth T. Sy, who was also the President of Hotels and Conventions Corporation mentioned that they are very excited with the opening of the Park Inn by Radisson in Davao. She also added that through this, they are “bringing to the market a world-class hotel brand with a very contemporary and vibrant look and feel” and that they are “confident that Park Inn by Radisson will deliver a great hotel experience that will continue to thrive on the upbeat outlook on the Philippine economy and tourism.”
After the Press Conference, later that night, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), a subsidiary of SM Investments Corporation, announced that it has officially opened Park Inn by Radisson Davao. Of course, the launching was made exciting with an entertainment.
What also made the night special was the appearance of the sexy model, Ms. Georgina Wilson. She was introduced as the official endorser of Park Inn by Radisson Davao.
Singer Christian Bautista also made the night “colorful” when he sang a mash up version of “Colors Everywhere,” which was perfect for the theme of the night’s program, “Adding Color to Life”.
Of course, a launch won’t be complete without food! So, buffet stations at RBG (Restaurant, Bar & Grill), which is the hotel’s spacious dining outlet, served hearty dishes, local favorites, grilled meats and seafood where everyone was excited and happy to feast. Then in the middle of a sumptuous dinner, a medley in flash-mob style was performed by the ladies of RBG, of course, the performers were rewarded with a warm and loud applause from us, the audience.
Simon C. Barlow, the president of Asia Pacific, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group highlighted that “the opening of Park Inn by Radisson Davao marks a new era for the Park Inn by Radisson brand in Asia Pacific. At this first next generation of Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Asia Pacific, guests can expect to experience the friendliness and vibrancy of the Park Inn by Radisson brand. It is focused on delivering the modern essentials of a great hotel experience that will resonate well with international and domestic travelers. We are pleased to be partnering with SM Group again in establishing this brand in the Philippines and we are confident that Park Inn by Radisson Davao will set a new hospitality benchmark in the growing mid-scale segment in the Philippines. As part of the Carlson Rezidor global hotel network, the hotel will benefit from the patronage of 10 million Global Club Carlson members. In addition, we believe the hotel and the brand will appeal strongly to the Philippines’ burgeoning domestic market of 35 million travelers seeking affordable accommodation that is fresh and uncomplicated”.
On the other hand and on a personal note, I would like to share what I have noticed and experienced during my stay at Park Inn by Radisson Davao.
I was assigned at room 733 and I was lucky to have a good view of the Samal Island.
Room 733 is a standard room with LCD TV, mini bar, electronic safe, in-room tea and coffee maker plus a working station.
I felt easily “at home” the room is spacious and colorful because its wall is painted orange. The wall color can be much appreciated as it becomes more noticeable when I turned on the lights near the head board. Also, it has a 2 single bed, so I missed my husband, especially that the bed felt very comfortable, as well as, their pillows and blanket. You know what, whenever I lay my back on the bed, I am having a hard time getting up because all I want to do is just lie down there. Ah, I really love that bed (now I terribly miss it).
As for the bathroom it was just fine – it’s spacious, though it has no bathtub but I love the shower (it’s a rain shower head!); the water can be adjusted to either hot or cold. Shampoo and body wash are provided and they are placed in an all- in – one dispenser by Dove. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided. Since there was no toothbrush and toothpaste, I had to ask for it and the housekeeping gladly gave me my request, I also noticed that there’s no bidet in the bathroom.
Outside, the pool looks great. Though I got no chance to try it, my blogger friends told me that the pool water was sort of “cold”, which was perfect since the weather was hot that time. There’s also a bar in the pool area so snacks can be ordered even in the pool.
As for the security, they were everywhere. Our bags were thoroughly checked at the entrance and one can never enter any rooms without a proximity card or room key card because the card is needed in the elevator. I can say that security is one of the top priorities of the hotel.
The staffs were very friendly as well. Even the janitor never forgets to greet the guests when they see one, and this is where a good customer service really starts.

What also made me love the place is the location, since it’s just beside SM Lanang Premier boredom was not a problem; not to mention that SM Convention Center can also be found there. There’s actually a bridge way between the hotel and convention center; very convenient for those who have attended a convention and want to go malling afterwards.
Room rates start at Php3,000.00 for a standard room and Php5,000.00 for Junior Suite. Though it is a 3-star hotel, the amenities are way better than 3 star hotels.
As for the Hotel Features, they have the following amenities to offer their guests:
- Newly built 204-room hotel (198 standard rooms and six junior suites) designed to deliver the modern essentials of the business and leisure traveler
- Second in the Philippines managed by one of the world’s largest hotel chains, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, after Radisson Blu in Cebu.
- Free wifi in all areas – depends on the room package.. I believed some packages don’t include free wifi.. they need to pay additional fee..
- Swimming pool, gym and pool bar
- It showcases local flavors through RBG (Restaurant, Bar & Grill) which offers locally-inspired specialties and classic dishes.
- Conference facilities (4 meeting rooms names after the distinctive local fruits of Davao: Mangosteen, Durian, Marang and Pomelo)
Location:
- The hotel is also conveniently situated beside the SM Lanang Premier Mall and the SMX Convention Center in Davao.
- 15 mins away from Davao International Airport
- 15 mins away from the city center
