Raising an Olympian: Stories Behind the Athletes

All eyes around the globe are now focused on the world’s most elite athletes as they converge in London for the 2012 Olympic Games.

As the “Proud Sponsor of Moms” and a Worldwide Olympic Games sponsor, Procter and Gamble (P&G) is using its voice at the Olympic Games to say “Thank You Mom” to all moms everywhere.

Behind every Olympian is a mom.

Behind every Olympian there is a story. And who knows the story very well? The moms….

P&G believes that behind every athlete is an even more amazing mom who has supported her athlete and helped him or her achieve the dream of competing on the world’s greatest stage.

As part of the  Thank You Mom campaign, P&G comes up with the idea of “Raising an Olympian“, a series of videos that share the journeys of several Olympians in becoming world-class athletes, as seen through the eyes of their moms.

Raising an Olympian – ALICIA SACRAMONE

“It’s their dream, not yours.” – Gail Sacramone (Mom of Alicia S.)

Despite the failure she had during the Olympics 2008 in Beijing, it never gave her the reason to stop and fight for this year’s Olympics and that is with the help of her mom too who never fails to support her in good and in bad times.

Raising an Olympian – LOLO JONES

“Keep Fighting.” -Lori Jones (Mom of Lolo J.)

Failure happens to everyone and it comes with a reason as well. But whatever it may bring to you, don’t allow it to discourage and bring you down but instead stood straight and fight for what you have lost.

In every Olympian, there is a story behind its achievement and success. And so we should not all forget to support these inspiring people who never get tired to prove that whether you came from poverty or wealthy family, what matters is the strength and the will you have inside.

Also with the help of Procter and Gamble, parents of our very own Mark Barriga flew in to London to support him on his bouts in the coming week.

Raising an Olympian videos are available on P&G You Tube Channels. On the P&G Channel on You Tube, you can select other countries by clicking on the globe located on the right hand side of the page and choosing a country from the drop down menu.
