After ten days of film, music and interactive entertainment, SXSW, more formally known as South by Southwest, has wrapped up for 2012. The massive trade show also happens to be the largest music festival in the U.S, where nearly 20,000 people register for the event every March.

While industry pros and A-listers were in abundance, chances are good if you weren’t one of the 20,000 people that coughed up $600 for registration and hopped on a flight toAustinfor the SXSW spectacular. If you were one of those that missed this event, you are not alone. South by Southwest and more than a few lucky participants anticipated that many of their fans would be unable to take part in the event so instead, they put videos of the performances online.

From Austin to Boston (or Wherever You’re At…)

Fortunately for everyone else who wanted to be present for surprise performances and sets that lasted until 3am, the internet is rife with ways to experience what you didn’t see live. The best part is you get to enjoy at home what everyone else had to shove through crowds to see.

  • Start with SXSW’s website; there’s an entire section devoted to videos and webcasts for you to rifle through.
  • SXSW’s YouTube channel has loads (nearly 2,000 actually) of performance, coverage, film, talks and special event videos.
  • While you’re on YouTube, check out what other participants posted, there’s footage of surprise performances and events taken by shaky hands and obscured by crowd fists – almost like you’re actually there!

Swing by The Circus

Performance videos and podcasts are all well and good because there are some really great songs and performances. However, you may also want to see the Circus. During the SXSW, they announced that Miguel and Pharoahe Monch headline THE CIRCUS presented by Cricket Wireless, resulting in several fans crazy with excitement.

Austin’s The Gypsy Lounge hosted the hip hop hullabaloo and fans went wild for the circus-themed bonanza that featured some of the biggest up and coming and indie artists from the world of Jay Z and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Miguel and Pharoahe Monch headlined the who’s who of electro-soul, R&B and hip hop, including Oddisee, BJ the Chicago Kid, The Kickdrums and Dopplegangerz.

You can still catch the show by checking out the web locations above. Don’t forget to listen to The Circus Mixtape, an excellent recap of two days’ worth of performances.

Catch Them on the Flip Side

SXSW comes around every March, but until then, you can always enjoy the show from home. If you liked Miguel and Pharoahe Monch at The Gypsy Lounge, you should check out Cricket’s Wireless’s Muve Music exclusive compilation album with Mello Music Group for exclusive access to their tracks as well as several other songs from reputable artists.
