Who will make it to American Idol Season 11 Top 3? You’re about to find out, and catch amazing performances from Jennifer Lopez and David Cook!

Here is American Idol Top 4 recap:

There are two more weeks left before we find out the next American Idol. Last night, the top 4 finalists took the stage to sing songs from California based artists and songs they wish they had written.

Phillip Phillips

Phillip Phillips began the show singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Judge Randy Jackson said, “it started off a little rough.” But it got better, and it was a solid effort. Just not spectacular.
Steven called Phillip “something else,” and Jennifer said Phillip had a new kind of Joe Cocker quality that she hadn’t heard him use before.

For his second shong, he chose to sing “Volcano,” by Damien Rice
Steven said he heard the musician in Phillip this time. Jennifer said very few people could pull a performance like that on Idol. She said it was a real testament to Phillip as an artist, and called it a “poignant moment.” Randy said it was one of Phillip’s best performances ever.

Hollie Cavanagh

Hollie Cavanagh was the second to perform. Hollie took on Journey’s “Faithfully.” Randy said Hollie was peaking at the right time of the competition, and her performance left Jennifer in tears. Jennifer was emotional realizing how far Hollie has grown this season, and Steven said Hollie’s talent was really blooming, thanks to her song choice.

For her second song, Hollie sang Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Mentor Jimmy Iovine gives her great advice to stay in the zone and not to over-sing it. She belted it out at the end, but Hollie did a good job of not shouting the lyrics.  Though according to Randy, her second one was a bit wrong for her. JLo agreed with Randy, that it’s easier to sing the song when she have had her heart broken and there was too much shaking in her vocals. Steven also found it a bit short of emotion.

Joshua Ledet

Joshua Ledet sang “Steal Away” by Etta James and “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown.

For his second song, Joshua chose James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” in honor of his mom for Mother’s Day.

Steven says no one has ever sang that good with such compassion ever on Idol before; he has never heard anything like that in his life. Jennifer says she thought they had seen everying Joshua had to give, but they obviously hadn’t. Randy says Joshua delivered them tonight and it was the greatest song ever for him; the best performance ever on any singing competition. If you want to know what singing is all about, listen to Joshua Ledet.

Jessica Sanchez

Jessica Sanchez sang “Steal Away” by Etta James and “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” by Jennifer Holliday.

The judges gave Jessica the second standing ovation of the night. Steven said Jessica really put herself into this song, and Jennifer was impressed that Jessica didn’t move onstage while delivering those big, emotional vocals. Randy didn’t know where Jessica got the experience and vocal chops to pull it off, but he was impressed.
