    Earth Hour 2012 in Philippines

    Earth Hour is one of the events that are much awaited every year. Aside from giving it as a tribute to mother earth, it also mold us how to become a responsible human being to nature and to earth.

    It’s been years now since Philippines participated in the said event and for those succeeding years of participating, the country is declared to be the “Hero Country” as of the participation level of the city and town had tribute for the Earth Hour is extremely impressive for the past years.

    This year, Philippines is glad to announce that the event will be conducted into three major places in the country which are Makati for Luzon, Cebu for Visayas and Davao for Mindanao. And this will be expected as successful as how it had gone since from the start. For 2012, Earth Hour has the campaign of “I will, if you will..” for this year. This signifies that in every action we do, someone must indeed take an action as well to save Mother Earth.

    Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City will be the center place for Luzon and the event will take place on March 31 at 6:30 pm. The groups of glow-in-the-dark dance troupe Bailes de Luces and the Caracol dancers whom will curdle the sentry of an Earth-theme parade, will start at the Makati fire station and ends at Ayala tower town. Rovilson Fernandez, the WWF-Philippines national ambassador, will be the host of the said event in the place and varieties of groups such as El Gamma Penumbra and Brigada are expected to attend and perform during the event in the place.

    Andy Ridley, the founder of Earth Hour and executive director, will lead the country’s main switch-off event which will be hosted by WWF together with the help of Ayala Land and Makati City government.

    While Plaza Independencia in Cebu City will be the main place for the switch-off event in Visayas on March 31 together with a festive street parade performed by Sinulog Troupe Dancers which will start at Fuente Osmeña Circle from 5:30 pm onwards. The Earth Hour in Cebu is in cooperation with Aboitiz Group and Cebu City government.

    SM Davao at Quimpo Boulevard corner Tulip Drive, Ecoland Subdivision, Davao City will be the main switch-off site in Mindanao during the Earth Hour event. The WWF-Philippines national ambassador Marc Nelson will be the host for the event in Mindanao which will featured with tribal-themed parade at 6:30 p.m.  The Earth Hour event is in cooperation of SM Supermalls, the Green Alliance and the Davao City government.

    The switch-off light event, will take place on March 31, 2012 at 8:30PM-9:30PM, that is exactly an hour in observation of Earth Hour. The event is expected to be participated with all the people not just within the Philippines but as well around the world. Hopefully, Earth Hour 2012 will be successful as it had been gone from the start.
