Mindanao, Philippines has been hit by a major earthquake today. Around 6 AM Saturday local time, Mindanao, Philippines was struck by a 7.3 earthquake. The region location is again the Moro Gulf. The quake was roughly 100 km (65 miles) SW of Cotabato, Mindanao, 120 km (75 miles) S of Pagadian, Mindanao, 155 km (95 miles) E of Zamboanga, Mindanao and 915 km (570 miles) SSE of MANILA.

    According to ABC NEWS:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A major 7.3 magnitude aftershock to an earlier earthquake shook the Philippines, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Friday.

The aftershock, which occurred on Saturday morning local time, struck 66 miles southwest of Cotabato, Mindanao, at a depth of 361 miles, the USGS said. It initially said the aftershock had a magnitude of 7.5.

The initial quake that preceded the aftershock had a magnitude of 6.9, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the aftershock did not generate a destructive tsunami in the region.

A quake of over 7.0 magnitude can cause widespread, heavy damage.
