MTV Emerge

I just learned today that my cousin’s friend, Mike D is one of the unsigned music talent in MTV Emerge. Mike D started singing at the age of 5 and songwriting at 15. He recorded his first ever demo CD in Toronto, Canada. His musical influences include Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Maxwell to name a few. His entry, Sad Song, is one of my favorites. I like the beat and I like the way how Mike sang it. I can’t get enough of this song.

Anyway, you might be wondering what MTV Emerge is. MTV, Jeepney Music, and Department of Tourism collaboration, MTV Emerge helps unsigned music talent in the Philippines to showcase their work.

Not only that, MTV Emerge is holding a contest wherein 7 of the unsigned music talents will win a one-year recording contract with Jeepney Music and mentorship under Apl.de.Ap. The contract includes artist management and promotion, digital distribution of 3 – 6 songs and a strategic marketing plan for the signed artists to break into both the Philippines and international markets.

MTV Emerge is one of the missions of Jeepney Music, created by Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas. In line with the Department of Tourism (DOT) responsibility for encouraging, promoting and developing tourism as a major socio-economic activity, spreading its benefits to sectors of society, Jeepney Music’s mission is to always serve with a commitment to a triple bottom line, giving back to the global community and the environment while maintaining a sustainable and profitable business model.

So if you have time, please vote for Mike D’s Sad Song or you can vote for the entries you like. – to support unsigned Filipino music talents.
