After beating the Orlando Magic in Game 5, people are asking if there will be a Lakers parade. According to some Los Angeles officials says they can’t afford to throw the team a victory party.

“We can’t afford to cover the costs,” City Councilwoman Jan Perry told the Los Angeles Times. “How could we make a decision about people’s jobs and then sponsor the parade?” But Councilman Bernard Parks said he expected the city to throw the parade and pick up the tab.

The Los Angeles Times reports that expenses, split between the team and the city, are expected to reach around $2 million, part of which will go toward renting the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The Lakers parade schedule is on Wednesday along a two-mile route from Staples Center to the Coliseum, where a rally will be held.

The Los Angeles Lakers championship parade begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. The parade will begin at Figueroa and 11th and end at the Coliseum
