iPhone OS 3.0 Release Date and Features
On June 17, 2009 Apple will be releasing the iPhone OS 3.0 update through iTunes. The update includes many functions other phones have had for a while, including multimedia messaging (if supported by your carrier–AT&T won’t offer it until later this summer), voice recording, buying and renting movies and TV shows over the air, full system search, tethering (again, if your carrier allows it), and push notifications. However, some of the new features will only work on the new iPhone 3G S, which will be released on June 19.
The free iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update includes some great new features, as well as all the features from previous updates. iPhone OS 3.0 also lets you run the next generation of iPhone apps, like peer-to-peer games1 and more. If you’ve never updated before, now is the perfect time.

Current iPhone owners can download the software from iTunes for free, and iPod Touch users can get it as well, but for a fee of $9.95, just like the last OS update.
For Asian iPhone owners: 3.0 software update will be available 18th June 1AM.
