Vigan City was inscribed in the World Heritage List of Cultural Properties by the UNESCO World Heritage Convention. In the eyes of these experts, the historic city of Vigan has cultural and natural properties that have exceptional and universal value. For a simple tourist, this city offers a rich cultural experience that combines eastern tradition and western influences. This fusion of east and west is evident in the architecture of the city. Cathedrals, ancestral homes, religious and administrative buildings that date back to the 18th century are well preserved and are still in use. Structures are not the only things that are well preserved in the city, the tradition and history of the town is also kept alive by residents who live in their ancestral homes. Visitors in these old homes can view relics from the past and learn the stories behind them straight from their descendants. Calesa or horse drawn carriages still exist in the city for those who would like to go around town in an 18th century mode of transportation. Those who would like to explore local industries will also find woven items and pottery that are made from traditional tools and practices.
