SM Supermalls have been actively participating in and even spearheading various environmental projects nationwide over the years; one of these activities is the Earth Day. Through Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. (EDNPI), a loose coalition between the government, civil society and churches, SM Supermalls have become the venue of this worldwide celebration.
Jen and I went to SM Megamall Event Center last April 16, 2013 to witness the opening program for the “Earth Day 2013 @ SM“. The registration started at 10AM, where DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje and EDNPI Chair and President Roberto Guevara gave their respective messages related to the celebration. Then around 12noon the booths were formally opened and cocktails were served.
Learning Sessions such as Water-based product/processes/services and Eco-Cleaning product/processes/services were presented. Mr. Tony “Bulate” de Castro graced the event where he talked about organic farming using bulate or earthworms. Mrs. Bulate (Beth de Castro) was also there and she shared how she was convinced by her husband to join him in his advocacy. The couple is the founders of Earthworm Sanctuary, an urban earthworm farm located in Quezon City. They culture and nurture earthworms then use their vermicompost to fertilize their organic farm.
Anyway, after the talks, Jen and I decided to check the booths and Plantex booth and Alabaster Miracle Oil booths caught our attention, among others.
At Plantex, sell herbal products like soaps, toothbrushes and laundry soaps among others, while Alabaster Miracle Oil booth showcased their oil that is aromatherapy oil w/ Negative Ion that can attract positive ions, which are considered to be bad energies coming from pollution, radiation, etc. It is also said to decrease electricity and fuel consumption.
Since we were curious, Jen tried it. She was simply instructed to stand and pushed suddenly where she lost her balance.
Then next, I was instructed to hold the oil and pointed a finger to Jen; she was again pushed and this time, she did not lose her balance. It was like magic!
The two-day Eco Fair included presentations from NGO Sharing for advocacy and volunteer opportunities, naturopathic medicine, zero waste lifestyle and energy saving devices, among others. SM Supermall also presented their Environmental Programs and made mention of their commitment to save the Earth; fun and games were also in the list of activities. All SM Cinemas showed the Earth Day 2013 Public Service Ads to show SM’s commitment to the environment through its many environmental programs. Earth Day 2013 IEC materials using Earth Day 2013 Logo were likewise presented.
This simply showed that SM Supermalls stay true to its commitment to save Mother Earth and Earth Day 2013@SM Eco Fair is one of the proofs.

Its good to know that big corporations like SM are doing their shares in being eco-green and promotes the saving of our environment. This is what everyone else should also be doing, not just by companies but individuals as well.
too bad I missed this fair.. it would have been great to learn new eco friendly products 🙂
