Lose More, Live More Blogger’s Edition
In line with this promo, C-Lium invited selected bloggers to be part of Lose More, Live More Bloggers’ Edition. Bloggers are challenged to lose weight and special prizes will go bloggers who have the biggest drop (a) BMI score, (b) bad cholesterol levels and (c) blood sugar levels. The first step in the challenge is the Medical CheckUp which was done last 26 July in MediCard Lifestyle Center. Several guidelines have to be observed before taking the medical check up and these are
- Have a light dinner and fast 10-12 hours prior to laboratory examination. Fasting requires no food and liquid intake, smoking or other intake by mouth (NPO – Nothing Per Orem)
- Avoid consumption of stimulants like chocolates, coffee, tea, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages prior to your schedule
- Have a normal rest the night prior to your schedule
- Bring jogging apparel for the treadmill test (specifically loose shirt with front opening, rubber shoes, shorts or jogging pants and a towel)
There are five (5) tests to get an accurate measurement of a person’s overall health and fitness condition and these are – Body Mass Index (BMI), Cholesterol Screening, Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Treadmill Stress Test, and Body Circumference Measurements. A Health Journal was provided to us to easily track down the progress our progress as we go along the C-Lium Lose More, Live More program. MediCard representatives helped us fill out the first entries to our Health Journal.
Results
Losing weight has always been a challenge for me, especially now that I’m 30 years old and my metabolism is very slow. Medicard in-house nutritionist, Diana Lodriguito, said that it is normal, and that the metabolism usually slows down after age 30, meaning I burn less calories than I did in my 20s.
Body Mass Index (BMI) and Body Circumference Measurements
I’m not really surprised when I saw the results of my test. I’m married with no children because I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome). Since most women with PCOS finds it difficult to manage their weight, so it’s not a surprise when I weighed 188lbs (85.7 kgs) and my waistline is 42 ½ in (haha) when it should be 31 inches only. What can I say–I love to eat, and I don’t really like to exercise! Plus the fact that PCOS or some hormone imbalance also add on the pounds.
Based on the results, I’m obese with BMI (Body Mass Index) of 33.4. BMI stands for body mass index, an approximation of body fat based on height and weight. At my age, the ideal weight should be 48-59 kgs or 106-129 lbs, that makes me more than 40 kgs/80lbs overweight. waaaah! The nutritionist recommends a healthy weight loss of 2 lbs for a month! So by August 26, I should weigh 186lbs.
Cholesterol Screening, Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS)
I had my blood extracted, and this blood test is done after a 9- to 12-hour fast and gives information about your:
- Glucose
- Total cholesterol
- Triglycerides–another form of fat in your blood
- High-Density lipoprotein or HDL (good) cholesterol–helps keep cholesterol from building up in the arteries
- Low Density lipoprotein or LDL (bad) cholesterol–the main source of cholesterol buildup and blockage in the arteries
- Very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) — considered a type of bad cholesterol, because it helps cholesterol build up on the walls of arteries.
My results are still normal based on the normal values. But I think I need to improve my HDL. HDL (good) cholesterol protects against heart disease, so for HDL, higher numbers are better. A level less than 40 mg/dL is low and is considered a major risk factor because it increases your risk for developing heart disease. HDL levels of 60 mg/dL or more help to lower your risk for heart disease. (source)
Treadmill Stress Test
Treadmill Stress test provides valuable information if the heart has sufficient blood and oxygen circulation during physical stress. The test may also reveal important abnormalities of the heart rhythm and blood pressure (BP). (source)
On this test, we were made to walk on the treadmill using a specific exercise procedure, starting at a slow pace. Then, the treadmill speed and it’s slope or inclination are increased every three minutes. BP, HR and ECG are all monitored and recorded simultaneously, at rest, and every 3 minutes per exercise stage.
I finished level/stage 3 (out of 7 levels) on the treadmill stress test and my blood pressure is peg at 130/90. I think stage 3 is okay since according to one of the nurses stages 4-6 already require intense effort and stage 7 the maximum effort. The doctor recommended proper proportions of food intake.
Why I took this challenge?
It’s not just about the weight loss anymore. It’s more on having a healthy lifestyle! I want to look good, to feel great, to live more, and of course, to be healthy.
My Goals
- Lose atleast 2 lbs a month!
- Live a healthy lifestyle
- Do Something Active Every Day
Plans To Achieve My Weight Loss Goals
Weight loss is all about burning calories and making lifestyle changes, so here are my plans:
- Exercise – Take brisk walking at least 30 minutes a day. Planing to go to a gym too =)
- Start on a Low Carb Diet and also, get familiar with what I can eat
- Take C-lium everyday because it can reduce bad cholesterol, lower blood sugar levels and promotes a healthier digestive system.
So if you want to switch to a healthier lifestyle (like me)! Learn to combine proper diet, right exercise and a smarter fiber supplement in your daily routine to help you achieve your health goals. Regardless of whether you want to lose weight or maintain your weight, you should take at least 25-35 grams of fiber daily for it can help boost weight loss and make slimming less agonizing.
