DOT promulgates the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Tourism Act of 2009

Nov 12, 2009 – Tourism Secretary Ace Durano promulgated today the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act 9593, otherwise known at the Tourism Act of 2009.

Durano said that, “the IRR was formulated by the Task Force composed of the Department of Tourism, the Philippine Convention Visitors and Corporation, the Philippine Tourism Authority and the Duty Free Philippines, after series of consultation with all stakeholders in the tourism industry, in the public and private sectors, throughout Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.”

Tourism-related associations, accommodation establishments, travel agents, tour operators, airline companies, airport authorities, as well as government agencies like the Department of Budget and Management, and Board of Investments; regional and provincial tourism councils; business organizations such as the Philippine Retailers Association and the Philippine Franchising Association graciously shared their inputs to the Task Force on the various aspects of the law.

The Department was on track on the ninety day timeframe provided by the law to complete the IRR after it was published in the Official Gazette on 13 July 2009.

As further mandated by RA 9593, Secretary Durano will convene the Tourism Congress on 25 November 2009 at the Mariott Hotel in Newport City. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be the keynote speaker for the inaugural meeting of the Tourism Congress composed of aggrupations of accredited tourism enterprises.
