The 2008 United States presidential election is fast approaching and everyone is curious who will replace Bush as the US President.

When I read this, I remember a story that I received a long long time ago.  I kept this because I learned from this story.

I had a best friend when I was in college.  My world revolved around him, but he did not know.  I did not tell my feelings for him because he was my friend’s ex boyfriend.  Everybody was saying that we look like a couple. According to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that an estimated 10,000 job opportunities await overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Alberta, a province in Canada.

Philippines’ Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque signed for our side while Alberta was represented by its Minister of Employment and Immigration (E & I) Hector Goudreau. The signing was held at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.

They aim to deploy about 30,000 to 40,000 OFWs to Alberta, Canada, and other Canadian provinces (Manitoba, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan) every year. Roque said that Canada has a shortage of 30,000 workers for their oil and gas industry. He also mentioned that OFWs who would like to work in Alberta should still apply for relevant vacancies through recruitment agencies authorized to recruit workers for Canada. Alberta also needs to hire food attendants, food processors, butchers, caregivers and nurses.

He emphasized that all recruitment costs related to the hiring of OFWs under the MOU shall be covered by the employers in Canada. Hence, the employment agency in Canada and the recruitment or sending agency in the Philippines are not allowed to charge any recruitment fees in any form from OFWs bound for Alberta.
